DUSU to beautify defaced metro stations

The Delhi University Students Union (DUSU) will hold a meeting in June with all stakeholders and volunteers to decide ways to beautify the 11 Delhi metro stations that were defaced during the varsity polls.

Last month, the Delhi High Court had directed the students/candidates to work with the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation(DMRC) to restore its defaced properties across the city.

The DMRC had told the court that about 76 locations metro properties were found to be permanently defaced and restoring them would cost over Rs 16 lakh and take six month's time.

"After the exams are over - on May 30 - we shall invite those candidates who have been identified by Delhi High Court for defacing metro stations and volunteers to chalk out a plan and creative ways in which we can beautify the metro stations," DUSU president Rocky Tuseed told PTI.

The eleven stations identified by the DMRC are: R K Ashram, Kuhat Enclave, Vishwavidyalaya, Rajouri Garden,Vidhan Sabha, Shivaji Park, Civil Lines, and Pitampura.

The decision to beautify the eleven metro stations was taken after parleys between student leaders of the university and the DMRC on Friday, Tuseed said.

ABVP's national media convener Saket Bahuguna said his organisation would contribute in the beautification.

"Since two of the ABVP candidates are in the present DUSU central panel (secretary and joint secretary), we will offer all our cooperation for this," said Bahuguna.

"For the polls this year, we suggest the university to invite all the students outfits and collectively get an assurance on refraining from usage of papers and defacement during the polls," he said.

NSUI incharge Ruchi Gupta said her organisation would do away with posters during this year's elections.

"We will put up flexes and run a vigorous online campaign. Our campaign will be progressive and issue-based and thus will not need to fall back on posters.
