Special Judge for CBI cases, Venkatasami, convicted Deputy Commissioner of Central Excise, A Ashokan, and also slapped a fine of Rs 50,000 on him.
CBI's case was Ashokan acquired assets disproportionate to known sources of his income.
During the period between September 1,1989 and January 19, 1998 while working as a public servant in various capacities, he acquired assets to the tune of Rs 21,40,140 in his name and that of his wife, the second accused in the case.
After completion of trial, the judge today convicted Ashokan, ordered confiscation of disproportionate assets of Rs.12,72,961 and acquitted his wife.
