East Bengal, under Ranjan Chowdhury, will seek to snap their four-match losing streak when they face Minerva Academy FC in their penultimate round match of the I-League at Barasat tomorrow.
The former Mohammedan Sporting coach took over the reigns of East Bengal in an unexpected turn of events as a freak fall of Mridul Banerjee on his first day of practice had ruled him out for the season with a torn Achilles tendon on his left foot.
Santosh Trophy-winning Banerjee was appointed coach less than 12 hours after Englishman Trevor Morgan had put his papers following East Bengal's 0-1 defeat to DSK Shivajians that shattered their I-League title hopes.
East Bengal, who had beaten the debutants from Punjab 5-0 in the first leg, will now look to get full points in their remaining two matches and finish in top three.
"We want to win the remaining matches and finish on a high. The target will be to do well in the Federation Cup (next month). We will like to take the momentum from this two matches," Chowdhury said.
Chowdhury has worked under Morgan at East Bengal in the past.
East Bengal are currently third in the table with 27 points from 16 matches with Willis Plaza their leading scorer on seven goals.
Immune to relegation, Minerva are placed ninth in the table with 12 points as they have not registered a win in their last five matches.
