Delhi Election Commission, under its voters awareness programme, today held a candle march and organised musical function in different parts of national capital.
Singer Shibani Kashyap performed in a musical function at Dilli Haat in Pitampur to apprise people about the importance of voting.
A candle light march was organised this evening in Janakpuri area of South West Delhi, where women residents participated and pledged that they would cast their votes in the upcoming polls.
District Election Officer (South West) Nikhil Kumar, said around 400 women were invited to attend the programme. "The gender ratio in this district is less than state average. The focus of today's march is to create awareness among women," said Kumar.
The march began from Pankha Road in Janakpuri and went around in various locality of Dwarka constituency.
A senior official of district election office (North) said, "As we celebrate national festivals like August 15 and January 26, we must also observe the day of voting.
"It is not simply a way of selecting a government but we are also bound to form a responsible and accountable government."
Delhi Chief Electoral Officer Vijay Dev said 100 per cent voting is one of the prime goals of the commission.
Earlier, the District Election Office (North) had conducted a voter's motivation programme in the five colleges of Delhi University in North Campus through Slogan and tagline competition.
