Eid-ul-Zuha prayers held in Gonda amid tight security

Amid elaborate security arrangements, Eid-ul-Zuha prayers were today offered at mosques in the city which had witnessed tension following a clash between members of two communities.
"The prayers were held peacefully with the administration and police making elaborate arrangements, especially in view of the tension over immersion of Durga idols," District Magistrate Ajay Kumar Upadhaya said.
He said there has been no report of any fresh untoward incident from anywhere and life was returning to normal.
Rapid Action Force and PAC jawans have been deployed at different spots and continued patrolling is on, the DM said warning that stern action would be taken against anyone disturbing peace.

Tension had gripped the city after a clash which took place when a slipper fell among the devotees going to immerse idols at Ektra crossing on Saturday night and stone pelting yesterday.
