Eight arrested for cutting sandal wood tree

Eight persons were arrested on charges of cutting a sandal wood tree from the revenue department land in Chinnhakulir on the outskirts today.
They have reportedly come from neighbouring Karnataka for laying road from Talawadi to this tourist town and were engaged in cutting the tree in the wee hours, police said.
Forest department officials nabbed the accused and handed over to local police.
One of the accused is said be to a TADA detenu some years ago and further investigations are on, they said.
