B V S S N Rao, his wife B Vijayalakshmi (61) and three others were taking a joy ride in a palm canoe (a country-made boat) when it capsized in Kondakarla Ava Lake in this district last evening, they said.
While the couple, natives of Palakollu town in West Godavari district, drowned, the other occupants of the boat were rescued by local fishermen, police said.
Rao and his wife had come to celebrate Makar Sankranti festival with their daughter and son-in-law, who reside in the city, Sub-Inspector of Munakagapaka Police Station B Hari said.
The bodies were handed over to the family members today after post-mortem, police said, adding a case of accidental death has been registered and further probe was on.
