The Delhi High Court has directed the police to ensure that from November 8 onwards no vehicles should be parked on the Sher Shah Road to de-congest the area around the court complex.
A bench of Justices S Ravindra Bhat and Sanjeev Sachdeva directed the police to clear all cars parked on the road in front of the high court regardless of who the owner is.
"Police shall take all steps necessary to clear the cars which are parked regardless of their owners (litigants, officials or lawyers). This direction shall be implemented immediately upon expiry of a week," the bench said in its order last week.
The bench asked the Bar Association of the high court to spread awareness regarding the availability of an automated underground parking facility across the road and ensure there is no parking in the vicinity of the court complex.
A direction was also issued to the high court establishment to examine the feasibility of adopting open stack parking, as was being used in the Rohini court complex.
The issue of traffic congestion was taken up earlier this year by the high court after an advocate in January suffered a cardiac arrest there, and died before he could be rushed to the hospital as the roads were clogged by parked vehicles.
The bench listed the PIL for further hearing on December 6.
