Even seniors wont be spared if found wrong: Hints Karunanidhi

After suspending 33 leaders in a post-poll shake-up, DMK chief M Karunanidhi today hinted that he will not hesitate to crack the whip even against seniors if charges of indiscipline against them were proved true.
The 90 year-old leader also assured that office-bearers will not be victimised on the basis of 'frivolous' allegations.
Karunanidhi said that since the party's action on June 21, when 33 leaders were suspended in the wake of his party's rout in the Lok Sabha elections, most of the suspended members had clarified to him either in person or through other means of communication though some of them had not responded.

Some even pleaded against expulsion, saying the complaints against them were 'fabricated' due to local intra-party issues, he said in a letter to the partymen.
"They travel all the way to make passionate appeals asking me not to expel them from the party. They are the blood veins of DMK. Party will not take action against anyone without making a thorough probe," he said.
At the same time, none will be spared if complaints were genuine, he added.

"I am pretty much aware that even some senior level leaders had unwittingly committed some mistakes. Some (lower level office-bearers) may wonder if there wont be any action against them. Don't such feelings of yours come to my attention?" the DMK leader asked hinting that senior leaders may also face the music for the party's poll debacle.

Karunanidhi said he had come to know a lot of intra-party differences, adding that not just the 33 suspended persons but some others had also made mistakes but have been spared since no complaints had come against them.
"But those who commit a folly have to face punishment though there could be some delay... I am determined to take action," in lines with party's principles of Duty, Dignity and Discipline, he said while stressing on discipline as a key for the party's well-being.
DMK drew a blank in the April 24 Lok Sabha elections in which 39 seats were at stake in the state.
