46-year old Kumar, a cine-actor turned politician, and Thankachi informed the court that they wanted divorce as it was difficult for them to get along well. After an hour of counselling, the family court granted divorce to them.
As part of an agreement (between the two parties), a two-storied building in ten cents (one cent is about 500 sq feet) of land in the city and Rs 2.25 crores in cash (75 lakhs each to Yamini and two children) would be given by Kumar.
Kumar, son of Kerala Congress (B) leader R Balakrishna Pilla, had to resign from the ministry on April 1 last after the long-drawn family discord reached a flashpoint when Thankachi filed a petition before the police accusing Kumar of indulging in domestic violence against her.
He also filed a complaint alleging Yamini manhandled him.
However, later they decided to part with and withdrew the petitions filed against each other.
Kumar, who is the lone MLA of Kerala Congress (B), represents Pathanapuram segment in Kollam District.
