"If there are differences between the Law Minister and the Solicitor General, then any self-respecting Solicitor General will move out from there. We will ask the government in Parliament why this happened and they will have to answer," senior BJP leader Murli Manohar Joshi told reporters in reply to a question.

"Nariman should himself speak out about what was the point on which he had strong difference and he moved out," Joshi said.

He pointed out that this is the "second or the third case" in which the Solicitor General has resigned in this government.

Nariman is the second Solicitor General in UPA-II government to submit his resignation. He reportedly put in his papers yesterday due to differences with Law Minister Ashwani Kumar.

Earlier, in July 2011, the then Solicitor General Gopal Subramanian had resigned from the post when the government had asked Nariman to fight the 2G spectrum allocation case.
