A farmer was lynched and his body was later set on fire by some villagers in Banda district, police said today.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Sripati Mishra said the incident occurred at a place under Jaspura police station yesterday.
Attributing the incident to an old enmity, he said a family of five attacked Kamlesh Sharma (52) and beat him to death.
They later torched his body.
Three persons, all brothers, and their two relatives have been booked, said the SP.
Additional police reinforcement was sent to the village to ease tension and efforts were on to nab the assailants, he added.
