A Pakistani man, practicing black magic, allegedly strangled his five children to death believing that it would endow him with magical powers.
40-year-old Ali Nawaz Leghari killed his two daughters and three sons, aged between three and 13, while they were asleep last night in his house in a village in Sindh province, police said.
"He ran away after the gruesome act, but we have found evidence that he was doing black magic and we are trying to find more links," a police official said.
"Apparently he was led to believe that if he sacrificed his children he would gain magical powers," the official said.
Police said that Leghari had earlier tried to poison the family's dinner but was spotted by his wife, resulting in a quarrel.
The eldest of the six children survived as he had left the home with his mother who had gone to her parents house after the fight.
Police is also searching for a black magic practioner whom Leghari used to visit frequently for help as he was in bad financial condition.
