The Himachal Pradesh High Court has directed the state electricity board to give Rs 1,50,000 to three members of a family whose sole breadwinner had died due to electric shock, caused due to alleged negligence of the department.
In the interim order, a division bench comprising Chief Justice Mansoor Ahmad Mir and Justice Tarlok Singh Chauhan directed the responded Electricity Board to deposit rs 1.50 lakh within six weeks.
One of the petitioners, Roshni Devi, said her 33-year-old husband died due to electric shock in Tattapani village of Mandi district due to "carelessness and negligence" of the electricity board.
The other petitioners are two children of the victim.
She alleged the board had not adhered to proper safety measures.
The woman had approached the police for registration of the case but only a daily report was registered.
"Prima facie, this is a case where a writ court should intervene and come to the rescue of the victims to save them from destitution, vagaries and social evils and also provide them some sort of help at this stage," observed the bench, disposing off the application for interim compensation.
The court listed the matter for next hearing April 6.
