Female elephant, calf found dead

A female elephant and its calf were found dead in a forest area in Valparai in the district today, forest officials said.
The elephant was estimated to be 18 years old and the cause of death is under investigation, they said.
The elephant and the calf were found in an area some distance away from the spot where a carcass of a leopard was recovered yesterday, they said, adding the area falls under Anamalai Tiger Reserve (ATR).
