In a fresh twist to the Maharashtra Sadan scam, state Transport Minister Diwakar Raote today said that file pertaining to the RTO plot at Andheri was gutted in the major fire at the state secretariat.
The plot owned by the state transport department was given to M/S K S Chamankar in lieu of construction of Maharashtra Sadan, New Delhi, High Mount guest house, Malbar Hill and an office for RTO at Andheri.
"The contractor failed to comply with the conditions of the agreement with the state government. He was supposed to build an administrative office building for the RTO, but nothing has been done so far. When we tried to trace the file, we were told that it was burnt in the Mantralaya fire," Raote said.
Following a complaint lodged by Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Anjali Damania, state ACB had initiated a probe against the senior NCP leader Chhagan Bhujbal and his family.
Bhujbal was Public Works Department minister in the previous Congress-NCP government in Maharashtra.
Damania had alleged that there had been rampant corruption and large-scale irregularities in the construction of the new Maharashtra Sadan, the state government's guest house in New Delhi.
The Public Works Department, under Bhujbal, awarded sub-contracts to firms in blatant violation of rules. All these firms were floated or controlled by the members of the Bhujbal family, Damania alleged.
The ACB recently filed an FIR against Bhujbal in connection with the scam.
