"The COAS (Chief of the Army Staff) met Russian Land Forces Commander Colonel General Oleg Sayukov," said Pakistan Army spokesman Major General Asim Saleem Bajwa.
"Discussions were held on the regional security, bilateral defence cooperation and high level military exchanges," he said.
Gen Sharif was given a guard of honour in front of the Kremlin after his arrival on a three-day visit, the army said.
Bajwa said it was heart-warming to see Russian band playing Pakistan anthem perfectly.
Pakistan and Russia have increased military cooperation in recent years.
