Four men were arrested and a juvenile was apprehended for their alleged involvement in the killing of a 47-year-old financier in south Delhi's Malviya Nagar last month, the police said today.

On February 8, the police were informed that a man, identified as Sanjay Chawla, had been stabbed. He later died of injuries, they said.

During its investigation, the police found that Chawla used to provide loans to people against monthly interests. While analysing his financial deals, the police became suspicious about a gemstone dealer called Manjot Singh (48), who had taken a loan from the victim, they said.

The police also found CCTV footage in which Singh was seen near the place of the crime.

After probing further into the case, the police apprehended Dinesh alias Chandan (22) and a juvenile from the Ganda Nala area in Chirag Delhi on March 14.

According to the police, the two said they had been hired by three men -- Rohit, Kale and Vicky --to kill Chawla and were paid Rs 35,000 each for the crime. Subsequently, the knife used to stab Chawla and the clothes worn by the accused at the time of the incident were recovered, Romil Baaniya, Deputy Commissioner of Police (South), said.

Rohit and Vicky were later arrested as was Singh. Kale is still at large.

The police said Singh revealed he had borrowed Rs 52 lakh from Chawla.

When Singh could not pay the interest on the loan, Chawla would "insult" him, the gemstone dealer told the police.

Singh decided to kill Chawla. He contacted two of his acquaintances, Vicky and Rohit, and promised to pay them Rs five lakh for the crime. The two in turn contacted Dinesh and the juvenile, who did a recce of Chawla's office and residence.

On February 8, Dinesh and the juvenile followed Chawla from his office to his residence.

Dinesh stabbed Chawla while the juvenile kept watch, the police said.
