Young Mizo Association (YMA) Sub
Headquarters of Mizoram-Bangladesh-Tripura border Mamit district today filed FIR at the Mamit Police Station against A. Sawibung, President of the Mizoram Bru Displaced People's Forum (MBDPF).
Rokima Royte, Secretary of the YMA Mamit Sub Headquarters told PTI over phone that Sawibunga was charged with defamation for defaming the Mizo people with baseless and wrong allegations.
"Sawibunga, now living in Naisingpara relief camp in North Tripura district was quoted as saying in a national paper report published on January 17, 2014, that 13 Bru houses were burned down by Mizos forcing many Brus to flee to Tripura," Royte said.
He said that the MBDPF leader was also quoted as saying that 1,000 Bru families have become victims of torture since the abduction of three persons by Bru goons on November 23 last year.
When contacted, SP of Mamit district Rodingliana Chawngthu said that no Bru house has been torched in the district and the allegations were completely false.
The YMA and student organisations have issued statements that people belonging to Bru community have killed a number of Mizos during the past few decades resulting in communal tension while the Bru leaders leveled baseless and false allegations against the Mizo people all the time to the Human Rights groups, the press and the Union government.
