The first ever Mizoram Renewable Energy Exhibition, 2016 was inaugurated today by the Mizoram Journalist Association (MJA) President Vanlalrema Vantawl in Aizawl.
Organised by the Zoram Energy Development Agency (ZEDA), several renewable energy firms participated in the exhibition which would end on Friday.
ZEDA Director Lalrinmawia said that they had initiated several projects in the state including solar, wind, bio-mass and water-based power generation and found that all of them have great potential.
"Mizoram being pollution free, solar power can be tapped and drawn to the maximum," Lalrinmawia said, adding that experiments on wind and bio-mass based energy generation were so far successful.
Millions of units of electricity were being saved by installation of solar power plants, solar water heating system and solar power packs under the Solar City programme, he said
"The ZEDA has installed 1,000 solar street lights in the villages and efforts were being made to install additional 4,000 solar street lights," he said, adding that ten KW wind-solar hybrid system for street lights in Pukpui village in south Mizoram's Lunglei district was already completed successfully.
He said that the hybrid system with the capacity of five and eight KW were being installed in southernmost Tuipang and Cheural villages respectively.
