Five police personnel were today suspended for helping tobacco tycoon Mohammed Nisham, who is facing murder charges, dine with friends and relatives at a restaurant here, violating rules.
The suspended cops had allegedly helped in arranging a meeting of Nisham with his friends at a restaurant here when the accused was brought here from Kannur central prison in connection with the hearing of the case two days ago.
Thrissur City Police Commissioner K G Simon, who investigated, found that the policemen, including Kannur AR camp Sub-Inspector Pradeep violated rules. Without permission of court the accused cannot be taken for a meeting with his friends and relatives, Simon told PTI.
The DGP had directed the Commissioner to look into the incident.
The policemen had taken Nisham to a restaurant from the Thrissur district court after the hearing of the case was posted to 2 pm.
Nisham, owner of King Beedi Co, was allegedly in an inebriated state when he physically assaulted the security guard and later rammed him with the SUV on January 29 at Sobha city, a posh residential township at here. He was later arrested.
