Former Director of Medical Education Assam given bail

Former director of medical education, Assam, Dr Atul Chandra Patowary who was sentenced to life imprisonment by a Special Judge, was today granted bail by the Gauhati High Court.
A division bench comprising Justices I A Ansari and Anima Hazarika granted bail to Dr Patowary.
A criminal case was registered by the anti-corruption Department for misappropriation of money for purchase of a cathlab machine from Japan in 1991.
The Special Judge, had found Dr Patowary guilty under section 409 IPC (criminal breach of trust by public servant) and sentenced him to life imprisonment.
