The educationist, who was father of former Maharashtra Education Minister Rajesh Tope, was ailing for long.
He was 74.
Tope breathed his last this morning after his condition deteriorated suddenly. He had undergone a surgery after which he was recuperating, they said.
His mortal remains would be consigned to flames tomorrow morning at Samarth Sugar Co-operative factory in Ankushnagar.
He was a MLA from Ambad constituency between 1972 and 1978 and a Lok Sabha member from Jalna (1991-96).
