According to an official release of the AMU, Professor Saeedul Hasan Arif and Kafeel Akhtar from the Department of Pathology along with senior residents Shagufta Qadri and Suhailur Rahman have been given this award for their work in the rare Hemoglobin C disease (Hb C).
This disease is not common in the Indian sub-continent but is widely prevalent in West African and Mediterranean countries. Those afflicted suffer nutritional anemia and do not respond to the treatment.
This award is named for scientist William Harvey (1578- 1657) who developed the first accurate account of how the heart and circulatory system operated and is given by the American Society of Hypertension.
