The incident took place last night when the victim, Premchand was beaten up the police officials after he allegedly misbehaved with a woman in an inebriated condition, Superintendent of police Rakesh Pandey said.
Later, Chand committed suicide by setting himself afire at his residence late last night. His family members have alleged that frustrated over the police beating, he took the extreme step, Pandey said.
On the complaint of the family of the deceased, SI Rakesh Katara of Rasoolpur police station and three constables Prem Shankar, Vinay Kumar and Shish Kumar have been suspended and a case of abetting suicide has been registered against them.
