Four persons were killed today in a clash over a disputed land serving as a burning ghat at Malibari in North Dinajpur district, the police said.
The land in the Raiganj police station area was held by the Rajbanshi community, a scheduled caste, of the area for a long time and the tribals had an eye on it, they added.
The clash occurred when tribals early in the morning tried to grab a piece of the land and the Rajbanshis resisted.
Two Rajbanshis and two tribals were killed while nine persons were injured in the clash, the police said.
The police is patrolling the area in strength. Many villagers have left the area in panic.
