Police have booked four travel agents for allegedly duping two youths of Rs 11.30 lakh on the pretext of sending them abroad.
A case was lodged yesterday against two Chennai-based travel agents, Mujeeb and Farid, under section 420 (cheating), IPC for duping local youth Harinderpal Singh of Rs 10 lakh on the pretext of sending him to the US, police said today.
The complainant alleged that the duo had demanded Rs 15 lakh from him, but later agreed to take Rs 10 lakh which he gave them in two instalments, police said, adding that the victim had also given them the photocopies of his passport and other documents.
The duo had put him up in a five star hotel in New Delhi with a promise to send him to the US soon, police said.
Subsequently, the duo disappeared from Delhi and stopped answering the victim's phone calls, they added.
In another case, a case was lodged yesterday against two other travel agents, Sukhdev Kumar Sahota of Jalandhar and Rashpal Singh of Phagwara, for duping Dilsher Singh of Rs 1.30 lakh on the pretext of getting him a work permit in Malaysia, police said.
The mother of the victim alleged that the duo soon started demanding an extra amount of Rs 35,000 from him.
On her complaint, a case was lodged under sections 420 (cheating) and 406 (criminal breach of trust), IPC.
