Nifty regains 8,000-level, recovers by 125 pts

The NSE Nifty settled above the psychological 8,000 mark, by recovering 125 points to end at 8,032.85 in view of short-covering ahead of the expiry of futures and options December contract on coming Thursday despite foreign capital outflows.
Overseas, Asian stocks ended mixed, in thin trade and with little to guide them asmost major markets were closed yesterday for Christmas holidays.
The Nifty opened higher at 7,915.05 and moved in a range of 8,044.65 and 7,903.70 before closing at 8,032.85, showing a rise of 124.60 pts or 1.58 pct from its last close.
It saw an intra-day movement of about 140.95 points.
On the sectoral front, FMCG rose by (2.68 per cent), followed by Metal (2.57 per cent), Pharma (1.96 per cent), PSU Bank (1.74 percent), Auto (1.55 per cent), IT (1.47 per cent), Energy (1.40 per cent), Infra (1.36 per cent), Pvt Bank (1.30 percent), Bank (1.27 percent), Finance Service (1.23 percent), and Media (1.16 per cent).
Major gainers were ITC (4.02 pct), Bosch Ltd (3.32 pct), Tata Steel (3.24 pct) and Aura Pharma (3.23 pct).
Howver, Gail fell by 1.04 pct and Grasim 0.42 pct.
A total of 1,175 scrips advanced 423 declined while 84 remained unchanged. Total securities that hit their price bands were 99.
Turnover in the cash segment rose to Rs 14,367.64 crs from 13,142.71 crore yesterday.
A total of 7,086.10 lakh shares changed hands in 6,070,032 trades. The market capitalisation of NSE stood at Rs 10,217,242.61 crores.
