German railways sues Bombardier over defective trains: report

Frankfurt, Feb 14 (AFP) German rail operator Deutsche Bahn is suing the Canadian train maker Bombardier over repeated and ongoing problems with some of its trains, the daily Sueddeutsche Zeitung reported today. Quoting court sources, the newspaper said Deutsche Bahn has filed two suits in both Munich and Berlin, claiming a total 160 million euros in compensation from Bombardier. The complaint concerns more than 200 regional trains in operation in southern Germany which have experienced repeated problems with tilting technology and axles. In addition, it also concerns problems with the brakes in regional and local trains in Munich, the newspaper said. Sueddeutsche said that Deutsche Bahn spokesman as confirmed the existence of the two complaints, but declined to say what they were about. Bombardier, alongside Siemens, is the most important supplier of trains to Deutsche Bahn and primarily supplies local and regional trains. (AFP) HAZ 02141715 NNNN
