Girl burnt to death in house blaze

A 16-year-old girl was charred to death in a fire that gutted an entire tile-roofed house in Basdroni area in the southern part of the city today, police said.
Fire broke out at around 2pm today at the house, a senior police officer told PTI.
"We recovered the charred body of a girl, identified as Simran Khatun who was sleeping inside one of the three rooms of the house that was destroyed completely," he said.
"The fire was probably because of short-circuit. The tiled-roof of the house and the false ceiling made of some inflammable inflamed the blaze. Two of our engines fought for more than two hours but could not save the house," fire officials said.

The girl's mother was working in the kitchen and by the time she realised that her daughter was sleeping inside another room it was too late, police sources said.
The girl's grandfather was admitted at a local hospital with injuries.
