A 16-year-old girl died when she set herself on fire after four youths of her locality allegedly teased her at Thonampatti village in the district today, police said.
The girl had recently reprimanded one of the four youths, Balamurugan, for making 'missed calls' to her mobile phone. The boy along with three of his friends teased her when she was fetching water from a street tap, police said.
Unable to bear the abusive teasing, she set herself afire. She was rushed to the government hospital where she died without responding to treatment, police said.
Police registered a case against the four youths and were looking for them, they said.
