In a statement here, Kiran Choudhry, Leader of the Haryana Congress Legislature Party (CLP), said Khattar said on the floor of the House that from the next season, farmers should not ask for compensation from the state for the crop damage due to natural calamities.
They will be compensated under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY), she said, adding that under the PMFBY, heat wave, cold wave and frost are not covered as natural calamity for giving compensation which will lead farmers to suffer great loses in kharif and rabi seasons.
She said when the Centre and the state governments planned to give direct subsidy to the farmers where was the need to involve insurance firms.
This is being done just to benefit the insurance firms, not the farmers, she alleged.
The memorandum submitted by the party to the Governor
stated, "The government is trying to make the officials scapegoats and saving the real perpetrators of the violence. Therefore, in order to clear the air and confusion, the report should be put in public domain."
"Therefore, for the sake of transparency, a thorough probe is needed and we request you to get the matter probed by a sitting judge of the Supreme Court," the party urged the Governor.
When asked about the ruling BJP turning the heat against the previous Congress government over its alleged acts of ommission and commission, Sharma said, "To hide its own failures and lapses, the government is targeting Bhupinder Singh Hooda. If we have committed any mistake, take action against us as per law. But, what they have unleashed is purely political vendetta."
The 450-page Prakash Singh Committee report, submitted to Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar over a week back, reportedly found "deliberate negligence" on the part of 90 officials, including IAS and IPS officers, during the Jat agitation.
At least 30 people were killed and property worth crores of rupees destroyed during the violent agitation the epicentre of which was at Rohtak district.
