"The interception of phones/mobiles by the police from the year 2013 till date was necessary for detection and prevention of offences by suspected elements or criminals in the interest of security of the state and for preventing incitement to the commission of an offence," Parsekar said in a written reply tabled on the floor of the House.
He saidsince 2013 till date, 23 phones/mobiles have been intercepted by the police in terms of the procedure prescribed under the information technology (Procedure and safeguards for interception monitoring and decryption of Information) Rules, 2009.
The CM said law makes it mandatory that the contents of intercepted or monitored or decrypted information shall not be used or disclosed by the agency authorisedfor any other purpose, except for investigation or sharing with other security agency for the purpose of investigation or in judicial proceedings before the Competent Court in India.
