"Observing some suspicious movement by Pakistani smugglers near International Border ahead of Border Security Fence in Ferozpur sector, BSF troops on duty were alerted," BSF, DIG R S Kataria said.
"When the smugglers reached near the fence and inserted a pipe in it, BSF troops tried to stop them. But they continued with their aggressive posture paying no heed to the challenges, Kataria said.
In an attempt to stop and in self-defence, BSF troops also retaliated by firing. However, the smugglers managed to escape taking cover of thick vegetation, undulating ground and darkness, the DIG said.
