Elsewhere, silver turned weak owing to subdued demand from consuming industries.
Standard gold (99.5 purity) climbed by Rs 215 to end at Rs 31,450 per 10 grams as compared to Tuesday's closing level of Rs 31,235.
Pure gold (99.9 purity) also rose by a similar margin to finish at Rs 31,600 per 10 grams as against Rs 31,385 yesterday.
While, silver (.999 fineness) declined by Rs 15 to conclude at Rs 48,495 per kg from Rs 48,510 earlier.
Spot gold was up 0.1 percent at USD 1,364.00 an ounce in early trade. It hit USD 1,367.33, its highest since July 11, on Tuesday.
Among other precious metals, spot silver was unchanged at USD 20.58 per ounce, a day after touching a four-week high of USD 20.78.
