Gold worth Rs 39 lakh seized from air passenger

About 1.5 kg of undeclared gold worth Rs 39 lakh was seized from a man who arrived from Dubai at the international airport at Karipur here today, customs officials said.
The gold in the form of a coil was kept concealed inside an iron box and came to light when customs officials checked the baggage of Mohammed Shafi of nearby Pudupaadi who arrived by an Air India Express flight.
Shafi had been taken into custody in connection with the seizure, they said.
