Goods train derails in Odisha, rail traffic affected

A goods train derailed between Berhampur and Golanthra railway stations in Odisha early Friday, affecting traffic on the route for five hours.

Two passenger trains - Puri-Palasa and Bhubaneswar-Berhampur - were cancelled after as many wagons of an empty goods train went off tracks around 1.30am, said J P Mishra, the chief public relations officer (CPRO) of East Coast Railway.

The goods train was on its way to Waltair in Andhra Pradesh from Khurda Road in the state.

On getting information, senior officers from Berhampur and Khurda Road rushed to the site with a relief van to restore services on the stretch, the CPRO said.

"The wagons were put back on tracks in around five hours under supervision of Khurda Road Additional Divisional Railway Manager S P Dwivedi. While two trains were cancelled due to the restoration work, some others ran on one line to avoid any inconvenience to passengers," he added.
