Governor, others extend May Day greetings

Tamil Nadu Governor K Rosaiah, AIADMK supremo J Jayalalithaa and DMK President M Karunanidhi today extended their May Day greetings.
"A nation's economy is said to progress only when the industries flourish. Labour and Capital should join hands to promote make in India and make it reach the nations across the globe," Rosiah said in a Raj Bhavan statement.
The rights of the working community should be upheld, he said while wishing them happiness, peace, progress and prosperity.
Jayalalithaa said that the labour community by its hardwork were contributing for the development of their homes and the country.
She recalled famous verses from one of the songs of matinee idol and her party founder, the Late MG Ramachandran, to highlight that the world survived due to the hardwork of workers and that therefore it belonged to them.
In a statement, DMK chief Karunanidhi recalled the various pro-labour measures implemented by his party in government at various points of time, including declaring May 1 as a holiday in 1967 by the CN Annadurai-led government.
Other measures included a seperate Labour Ministry and Labour Welfare Board among others at different points of time, he added.
TNCC President EVKS Elangovan, PMK founder S Ramadoss and CPI state secretary R Mutharasan also extended their May Day greetings.
