Amid boycott by Opposition members, annual budget for the financial year 2016-17 was today tabled in Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council.
As soon as the proceedings began, members of independent group and Devendra Pratap Singh of SP came into the Well, raising slogans on regularisation of adhoc teachers in aided schools.
Leader of the Opposition Naseemuddin Siddiqui said, "If a proposal to regularise teachers had been passed by the cabinet, then what was the problem in it? The government should accept the demand."
Congress' Naseeb Pathan said the government should stop its "stubborn" attitude.
On not getting any reply from the government, the members again started raising slogans after which Chairman Om Prakash Sharma adjourned the House for 10 minutes, which was later extended till 11.45 AM and then till 12.15 PM.
When the House assembled, Siddiqui said the government was not stopping its "stubborn" attitude due to which he along with his party members boycotted the House for the day.
The BJP and Congress members also followed suit.
Leader of the House Ahmad Hasan presented the budget in the absence of the opposition.
Chairman proposed gratitude towards the Governor for his joint address, which was passed by voice vote.
Later, the House was adjourned till Monday.
