Government wants to improve the image of CBI, Union Minister M Venkaiah Naidu said today while refusing to be drawn into the controversy over the alleged visit by various people who are under CBI probe to the residence of agency director Ranjit Sinha.
"The matter is already before the highest court of the land. And any comment by me will not go well. Secondly, we are ...For improving the image of CBI, that has been our stand and we stand by the same stand even today also," the Parliamentary Affairs Minister said at a 'Meet the Press' programme organised by the Press Club of India.
He was asked about the view of the government on the CBI director who has come under the scanner at a time when the government has been saying that it is keen on anti-corruption measures.
On CBI director's plea before the Supreme Court to gag media from carrying news stories on alleged documents pertaining to the entry of various people who are under its probe at his residence, Naidu said, "Media as per democratic norms in the country is allowed to cover all public activities."
"I am told that the court has already rejected it (the plea)," he said.
He evaded a direct answer to a question whether the government would go ahead with the passage of the three anti-corruption measures including one on delivery of services.
"These bills have been brought about by earlier government. We want to strengthen anti-corruption mechanism and we have every right to examine them and make changes if necessary," he said.
