Congress today said its government in Karnataka would take a "deeply-considered" and "good" decision on the issue of filing an appeal against the acquittal of former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa in the disproportionate assets case.
"As the government has announced earlier, I am sure it will take a very very deeply-considered decision ... It will be based on all aspects - legal, factual. I think you will get a good decision either way. Just wait for that instead of speculating," Congress spokesman Abhishek Manu Singhvi told reporters here.
Earlier in the day, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had said the state government was yet to decide on filing the appeal.
"We have not yet taken any decision; ...Law department is examining, they are studying the judgement, we will take a decision after getting inputs from them," he said.
On May 18, the Karnataka Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister T B Jayachandra had said it would take "some more days" to decide on filing an appeal in the Supreme Court.
Special Public Prosecutor B V Acharya and Advocate General Ravivarma Kumar have stated in public that they have recommended to the state government to file the appeal.
The Karnataka High Court has cleared Jayalalithaa and three others of all charges on appeals filed by them against their conviction by the trial court which had in September last year sentenced them to undergo four years imprisonment.
