Twenty years after she was expelled from CPI(M) in Kerala, veteran leader K R Gowri Amma today decided to return to the party.
Her decision came following an invite from the CPI(M) state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan to return to the party- fold.
Balakrishnan told PTI that Gowri Amma, who founded a political party Janathipathiya Samrakshana Samithy (JSS) after she was expelled from CPI(M) in 1994 on charges of anti-party activities, would work with the party.
"A rally will be organised on August 19--the martyrdom day of P Krishna Pillai--founder of the Communist movement in Kerala--in Alappuzha in which she will announce her decision to work with CPI(M)," Balakrishnan said after his talks with Gowri Amma at her residence here.
"There are no conditions attached to it. Rest of the things will be decided later," he said when asked about the position to be given to the 96-year-old politician and how the CPI(M) would accommodate leaders of her JSS which was once part of Congress-led UDF in the state.
Gowri Amma, a prominent figure in the Communist movement in Kerala, and her party had been associated with CPI(M)- led LDF after severing her ties with UDF following her party's defeat in the assembly polls in 2011.
She was a minister in the first Communist government in Kerala headed by E M S Namboothirippad in 1957.
Gowri Amma had also served as minister in the Communist governments in Kerala in 1967, 1980, and 1987 and was also a Minister in the UDF government from 2001 to 2006.
