The Uttar Pradesh cabinet, at a meeting presided by Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, today approved the modalities of UP Motor Vehicle Taxation (Amendment) Bill 2014 which provides for the imposing of the green tax on old vehicles at the time of re-registration, an official release said.
This decision has been taken keeping in mind the fact that as the vehicles grow older they emit more pollutants. The money collected thereby could be spent on environment conservation, the release said.
The cabinet also decided that scavengers involved in work in local bodies through service providers be paid a wage of Rs 250 per day.
