The Gujarat High Court today set up a special team of Anti Corruption Bureau sleuths to probe into an alleged corruption case against two suspended judicial magistrates.
Justice Sonia Gokani ordered that the special team led by an ACB official and two constables would investigate the case together with the high court's vigilance cell.
The court also said the team will submit its report to the high court's registrar general in three months.
The court's order came on a plea by Vapi-based lawyer Jagat Patel who had earlier in 2015 carried out a sting operation against the two judicial magistrates, A D Acharya and P D Inamdar and had caught them on a camera purportedly discussing the sum for payment to pass favourable orders.
On the basis of the sting operation, the Vigilance Cell of the high court had lodged an FIR against the two erring judicial officers in 2015 under the Prevention of Corruption Act and allegedly for forging court records and passing forged documents as genuine.
But Patel had moved the high court for the CBI probe terming the investigation by the Vigilance Cell as "sloppy."
The two judicial officers were first suspended in August 2015 by high court and were arrested in September. They are presently out on bail.
