"Geeta Chauhan was found hanging from the ceiling of a room locked from inside at her house in Ram Park area on Kalavad Road when her husband and mother-in-law opened the door" Kalavad Road police sub inspector N B Bhardava, who is investigating the case, said.
Geeta was the daughter-in-law of Shamjibhai Chauhan, MLA from Chotila Assembly constituency in Surendranagar district, he said.
Shamjibhai is also the Parliamentary Secretary for Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs department in the state.
Police said her body has been sent for post mortem and investigations are underway.
