Haryana Governor Kaptan Singh Solanki today underlined the significance of Corporate Social Responsibility saying that any society would face its downfall if it is without the feeling of social responsibility.
Addressing a conference on CSR organised by Confederation of Indian Industry here, Solanki urged the corporate sector to discharge its social responsibility keeping in view the interests of the society and the country "and not because the government has made a rule for you to invest two per cent of their profit for social work or they would get rebate in income tax".
He said that by organising such conferences, awareness would be generated in the corporate world and "such situations would not arise which happened last year when two-third companies did not discharge their duty of social responsibility".
Quoting an example of erstwhile British rule in India, he said that the country was earlier ruled by many kings.
"Had they such a feeling of social responsibility, East India Company would have never ruled us.
Similarly, if this feeling could have come in 565 Kings in the year 1857, the country would have got freedom then only.
Even after 50 years of India's independence, we could not get what we actually wanted to see.
Therefore, we should take lesson from our history and should strengthen the feeling of social responsibility," he said, according to a Haryana Government release here.
He said that people are able to earn only due to society which is providing them every kind of facility and security.
