Haryana govt to create road safety fund

Haryana Government has decided to create a road safety fund to strengthen traffic infrastructure and improve traffic education.
The fund will be used for purchase of equipment like Alcometers, Radar Guns, vehicle Interceptors and preparation and distribution of traffic education materials which will contribute to safer road travel by users, Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar said in a written reply to a question during the ongoing Budget Session of state Assembly.
The question pertained about steps taken by the state government to curb the increasing road accidents.
To ensure effective traffic management, smooth flow of traffic and to implement the provisions of Motor Vehicles Act, separate traffic wings have been created in each and every district of the state.
As many as 22 Traffic Police Stations and five Traffic Police Posts have been established in the state with maximum possible police force and vehicles, the Assembly was informed.
A total of 32 high speed interceptor vehicles have been provided to control the menace of over-speeding vehicles running beyond the prescribed speed limits.
As many as 42,541 violators have been intercepted and challaned for the offence of over-speeding during the period from January 1, 2014 to December 31, 2014. As many as 12,094 drunk drivers were detected and challaned during the period.
In Haryana, 1,170 accident prone points have been identified and remedial actions on 934 accident prone points has been completed and on other accidents prone points will be completed very shortly, the House was further informed.
