The Madhya Pradesh High Court today upheld the death sentence of a man accused of murdering his employers.
The division bench of Justices S K Seth and P K Jaiswal of Indore bench of High Court confirmed the trial court's ruling, dismissing the appeal filed by the accused Sukhlal (25), government lawyer Raghvendra Singh Bais told reporters.
Additional sessions judge P K Sinha had awarded capital punishment to Sukhlal on May 30 this year, describing the case as 'rarest of rare'.
Sukhlal, employed as a gardener by water purifier manufacturer Sharad Agrawal (50) and his wife Jyoti (45), murdered the couple at their Rajendra Nagar farmhouse near here on March 20, 2013 by hitting them with a heavy alloy-made idol of Buddha and also stabbing them with a piece of glass.
According to the prosecution, Sukhlal had hurt himself while on the job and had demanded Rs 200 from Agrawals who had hired him only a month earlier. This led to an altercation.
Subsequently he murdered both of them and decamped with Rs 5,000 in cash and some valuables.
