The Madras High Court today ordered issue of notice to two police officials on a petition seeking a direction to transfer the case relating to a woman's death from the Tiruchuli Police to CB-CID.
Admitting a writ petition, Justice G.Chockalingam of the Madurai Bench of the High Court, directed the respondents-- Aruppukottai Deputy Superintendent of Police and Inspector of Tiruchuli, to file their reply within two weeks.
The petitioner G.Nallamuthu, submitted that his niece Karpagavalli loved one Thirumurugan and lived with him for some time without marrying him. Thirumurugan was forced to marry her at the intervention of the local people, and self-help group, after she became pregnant,on December 1,2013.
However, Thirumurugan's relatives were against the marriage. After the marriage, Thirumurugan left the woman at Nallamuthu's brother's house, and did not take bother to meet her or pay for the maintenance of his daughter,it was alleged.
At a function, during a wordy altercation between Karpagavalli and Thirumurugan, the latter's relatives attacked her leading to her death, the petitioner said. They took the body to the house of Karpagavalli's step-mother and hanged it there, the petitioner alleged.
The post-mortem report revealed it was a clear case of murder, the petitioner claimed. But police instead of registering a murder case, had registered a case of suicide, and they were in the process of filing the final report also, he alleged.
Despite several representations, police were not taking any step to alter the IPC sections, the petitioner said and sought a direction to transfer the case from the Tiruchuli Police to the CB-CID.
