The order was passed by the division bench headed by Justice V M Kanade on a PIL filed by Govansh Raksha Samiti, an NGO.
The Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai and Mumbai police commissioner were asked to take action against illegal slaughter of bulls at the abattoirs.
After President Pranab Mukherjee gave his assent to the amendment in animal slaughter prevention act of Maharashtra, the Samiti had approached the civic body, which regulates Deonar abattoir and other slaughter houses, urging a ban on bull slaughter.
After hearing NGO's counsel Prafulla Shah, the high court directed that bull slaughter be stopped immediately and posted the matter for hearing tomorrow.
